Round corners or crop to a circle

Always exported as transparent PNG
Rounding corners means making them transparent, and JPEG cannot store transparency — you would get white or black triangles instead. So the result is always written as PNG with an alpha channel. The file is larger than a JPEG, which rarely matters at icon sizes.
Getting a true circle
Crop a non-square image to a circle and you get an ellipse. For a perfect circle, crop to 1:1 first and then load it here, keeping your subject near the centre.
Choosing a radius
Roughly 5-10% of the shorter side reads as a subtle softening, 15-25% as clearly rounded, and about 22% matches the look of a phone app icon. The preview updates as you drag, so judge it by eye.

Does it work on a phone?

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
